AmeriCorps is a network of national service program that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. AmeriCorps, part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, provides trained, dedicated people to help nonprofits accomplish more and make more effective use of volunteers.
Most AmeriCorps members are selected by and serve with various local and national organizations and projects. Others serve in AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and AmeriCorps*NCCC (the National Civilian Community Corps). After their term of service, AmeriCorps members receive education awards to help finance college or pay back student loans.

Since 1964, AmeriCorps*VISTA has been helping bring communities and individuals out of poverty. Today, nearly 6,000 AmeriCorps*VISTA members serve in hundreds of nonprofit organizations and public agencies throughout the country - working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, increase housing opportunities, or bridge the digital divide. AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) teams meet community needs in cooperation with non-profit programs, state and local agencies, and other community groups. AmeriCorps*NCCC is a 10-month residential national service program for young women and men between the ages of 18 - 24.
