Past Winners

Her service involvement includes; serving as a trusted caretaker of infants in Cottonwood Hospital’s nursery, providing a friendly greeting and a smile to go with it at Mt. Olympus Senior Center; knitting many hats and blankets for those in need; helping out at the Friends of Sight; and since 1994 she has been impacting the lives of children as an RSVP volunteer mentor at Bridges Volunteer Program which is a mentoring program involving older adults and school-referred children. These children are unable to read well enough o complete classroom assignments and tests. They require one on one attention and Ellyn provides that. She has found time to tutor 108 students with 1,189 hours of service. These children are now able to read, add, subtract and spell and have a positive attitude and a sense of self worth. Ellyn is also a spokesperson on television to help with volunteer recruitment and her enthusiasm is spread to her friends. Her enthusiasm and distinguished commitment to helping others along with her belief that if a person knows someone cares enough to give them a chance they will excel in their own right exemplifies the spirit of service. |
