Twenty-two hundred and forty-seven employees take heart in their company’s guiding principle that states: “We want to be actively engaged in important community issues and to help provide creative solutions to community needs.”   This principle has led Zions Bank employees to donate over six hundred thousand hours to worthy organizations.  Those employees served on community boards, assisted with community programs, taught students about finances and more.  The value of those volunteer hours equaled more than one million dollars.  In addition, contributions by employees to community groups also exceeded one million dollars for 2006.  The bank donated $1.5 million to charitable organizations and $2.1 million to community sponsorships.  Zions Bank is a corporation committed to building community.

American Express employs 1800 people in Utah.  The company strives to be an active and positive influence in the community.  Nearly all employees with a title of director or higher serve on a board.

American Express holds an annual Month of Volunteering.  They look for community projects to work on as groups.  These projects have included building stuffed bears for the Ronald McDonald house, sorting food at the food bank and planting trees in public parks.  They have committed to several Meals on Wheels routes where employees deliver food to the home-bound elderly and do so without clocking out.  They serve the community and build teamwork.  1800 employees provide an estimated 20,000 volunteer hours and additional significant financial contributions throughout the non-profit community.
