Paulynn Hacking Most would think that the mother of 5 children under the age of eight wouldn’t have time in her busy schedule for service, but Paulynn Hacking makes time. She is the Volunteer Director of Learning for Life Day Camps for elementary school students who have been involved in Learning for Life classes during the school year. Her campsites will serve over 2,700 second through fifth grade students from 114 schools, 78% from at-risk schools, an opportunity to attend a camp this year and is run by two-hundred and fifty volunteers. Paulynn begins planning and recruiting for her summer camps in November. She is also on her school’s community council, is cub scout committee chairman, and is her oldest son’s Tiger Cub leader.
2006 Winner Ron Bouck Ron Bouck has been community service/charity project coordinator for the Salt Lake board, a non-profit trade association of 7,500 professional real estate brokers, sales agents and affiliates since his employment began with the board in 2000. He is staff liaison to five Salt Lake Board committees involving 140 volunteer members. He helps coach the chairs to reach their annual goals, arranges meeting space, calls non-attenders, sets up agendas and rosters, tracks expenses and raises funds. He works behind the scenes for the success of meeting and planned events. His efforts include KidsFest Carnival, an annual public fund raiser held at Wheeler Farm which supports the Christmas Box House, a temporary shelter for abandoned, abused and neglected children. An Estimated $128,000 in the past five years has been raised to benefit 3,000 troubled families and a collective volunteer effort of 1,900 hours annually on this project alone. A 32 member volunteer effort - Shrimpfest is an annual charity dinner/auction. Over 80 donated items auctioned brought in $30,000 for operational expenses at the Road Home Shelter and includes Christmas in July; a day party for the families of Road Home Shelter. Habitat for Humanity “home build” committee has 40 Realtor members which work with Salt Lake Valley Habitat to find lots, raise funds ($68,000 this year) securing in-kind materials and actually working on a two story home in Glendale. He is on the Realtor Magazine editorial advisory board, editor and chief photographer while chairing this committee. Ron understands and works well with the volunteers. He carefully counsels and motivates volunteer groups to do better each year. He seeks to have them discover what ‘giving back’ to the community is all about and arranges volunteers to visit the benefactor sites in order to view their effective efforts. His sense of humor, energy and willingness to stand by each group has earned the respect of all who work with him.
